MimiKey documentation

MimiKey is a zero-knowledge password manager. This page covers what it does, which platforms it runs on, and where to start.

What MimiKey is

MimiKey stores your website logins, credit cards, bank cards, API keys, server credentials, secure notes and passkeys in one place, keeps them in sync across your Mac, iPhone and browser, and fills them in when you need them.

MimiKey uses zero-knowledge encryption: your items are encrypted on your own device with a key derived from your master password and your Secret Key, and the server only ever stores ciphertext. Neither the master password nor the Secret Key is uploaded, so MimiKey cannot read your items and cannot reset your master password for you.

For the details, see Security model and the Security page.

Note The MimiKey apps are currently available in Simplified Chinese only. When this guide refers to a button or menu, the Chinese label is shown in parentheses so you can find it on screen.

Important MimiKey is still in beta and has not yet had an independent third-party security audit. Until that audit is complete, we recommend not storing your most critical accounts — banking, your primary email, your Apple ID — in MimiKey.

Where to start

  1. Get started: create an account, save your Emergency Kit, sign in on your devices and add your first item.
  2. Master password and Secret Key: what the two secrets are and what happens if you lose one.
  3. Install an app — Mac, iPhone, Android, the browser extension — or use the web vault.
  4. Turn on AutoFill so MimiKey can fill logins on websites and in apps.

Common tasks

Developers can start with the Developer overview to learn how an app can read or write MimiKey items with the user's approval.
