Import and export
In the Mac app, import items from Bitwarden, KeePass and 1Password, or export them as Bitwarden JSON, CSV or KeePass XML.
Supported formats
Import and export are currently available only in the Mac app, and work on your account's personal vault.
| From / to | Import | Export |
|---|---|---|
| Bitwarden | Unencrypted JSON export, CSV export | Bitwarden JSON |
| KeePass / KeePassXC | KeePass 2.x XML export, KeePassXC CSV export | KeePass XML (KeePass 2.x) |
| 1Password | 1Password 8 CSV export, .1pux export | CSV (1Password column layout) |
MimiKey detects the format from the file's contents. A file can be up to 64 MB and contain up to 20,000 entries.
Import from another password manager
Step 1: Export from your old password manager
Export an unencrypted file:
- Bitwarden: export as
.jsonor.csv. Encrypted JSON exports can't be imported. - KeePass: export as KeePass XML (2.x). KeePassXC can also export CSV.
- 1Password: export as
.1puxor CSV.
Step 2: Import into MimiKey
- Unlock the Mac app with your master password.
- Click the Import & export (导入与导出) button in the toolbar.
- Click Import (导入) and choose the file from step 1.
- MimiKey shows the detected format, how many entries it will import and how many it will skip. Confirm in the dialog if everything looks right.
- When it's done, MimiKey shows how many entries were imported, and lists any that were skipped or failed to save.
Imported entries are added to your personal vault as new items and sync to your other devices. Importing the same file twice creates duplicates.
What gets imported
| Content | What happens |
|---|---|
| Logins | Imported as Login items, keeping the name, username, password, website, notes and verification code secret |
| Secure notes | Notes from Bitwarden (JSON and CSV) and 1Password 1PUX are imported as Secure notes |
| Cards | Cards in Bitwarden JSON are imported as Credit cards |
| Custom fields, groups | Kept as text in the item's notes where possible — for example, KeePass groups |
| Identities, attachments, passkeys | Skipped and listed in the result |
| Items in the trash or archive | Skipped and listed in the result |
Each item keeps a single website address.
Step 3: Delete the export file
As soon as the import is done, delete the plaintext file from step 1 and empty the Trash.
Export
- Unlock the Mac app with your master password.
- Click the Import & export button in the toolbar.
- Choose a format:
- Export Bitwarden JSON (导出 Bitwarden JSON): includes verification code secrets; can be imported into Bitwarden or back into MimiKey.
- Export CSV (导出 CSV): uses 1Password's column layout.
- Export KeePass XML (导出 KeePass XML): KeePass 2.x format.
- Read the plaintext warning, confirm, and choose where to save the file.
The export contains every item in your personal vault that can be decrypted. Items that can't be decrypted aren't exported.
Important Exported files are not encrypted. Usernames, passwords, verification code secrets and notes are all in plain text, and anyone who gets the file can read them. Save it only somewhere you control and delete it as soon as you've finished migrating. System backups or cloud sync may keep copies.
Troubleshooting
"不认识这个文件" (file not recognized) when importing. Make sure you exported one of the formats in the table above, unencrypted. For Bitwarden, choose unencrypted JSON or CSV.
Some details ended up in the notes. Fields MimiKey doesn't have, such as custom fields and KeePass groups, are written to the notes as text so nothing is lost.
Can I import straight into a shared vault? Not yet — imports go to your personal vault. Afterwards, create items in the shared vault for anything you want to share.
Can I use an export as a backup? It works as a copy for migrating, but it's a plaintext file and not suitable for keeping long-term. Your items are already stored, encrypted, on the server.
