Mac

Install and use the MimiKey Mac app — sign in, unlock with Touch ID, manage items and sync, and power the browser extension and system AutoFill.

Install

The MimiKey Mac app is in beta and requires macOS 14 or later.

  1. Download the .dmg from the download page.
  2. Open the .dmg and drag MimiKey into your Applications folder.
  3. The beta isn't notarized by Apple yet, so the first time you open it, right-click MimiKey in Finder and choose Open, then click Open in the dialog. After that it opens normally.

The Mac app also does two jobs on your Mac:

  • It supplies items to the browser extension, which only works alongside the Mac app.
  • It provides macOS system AutoFill. See AutoFill.

Sign in or sign up

  1. Open MimiKey. The first time, you'll see the sign-in screen.
  2. If you have an account, enter your email address, master password and Secret Key, then click Sign in (登录). This Mac remembers the Secret Key, so next time you only need your master password.
  3. If you're new, click Sign up (注册) and enter your email, the verification code, a device name and your master password, then save your Emergency Kit. The steps match Get started.
  4. If you forgot your master password, click Forgot master password? (忘记主密码?). See Devices and account recovery.

Create and edit items

  1. Click New item (新建条目) and choose a type.
  2. Fill in the fields. Fields marked as required (必填) can't be empty. Logins have optional fields such as notes and a verification code secret, tucked behind "+ 添加…" links.
  3. To create a new password, click Generate (生成). MimiKey fills in a random 24-character password that includes symbols.
  4. Click Save (保存). The item syncs to your other devices.

If you switch items or close the editor with unsaved changes, MimiKey asks whether to save and continue, discard your changes, or keep editing. Deleting an item asks for confirmation and syncs the deletion to all of your devices.

Passkey items are created automatically when you register a passkey on a website through AutoFill. They show the website, display name, credential ID and creation date; the private key is never shown.

Copying

Click Copy (复制) next to a field to put it on the clipboard. After 30 seconds, or when MimiKey locks, the clipboard is cleared if it still holds what MimiKey copied. Anything you copy afterwards is left alone.

Lock and unlock

  • MimiKey locks automatically after 5 minutes of inactivity.
  • To lock it yourself, press ⌘L, choose Vault > Lock Vault (保险库 > 锁定保险库) from the menu bar, or click Lock account (锁定账号) in the sidebar.
  • To unlock, enter your master password or use Touch ID. Unlocking signs in to the server and syncs, so it needs a network connection.

Locking or signing out discards any unsaved edits.

Turn on Touch ID

  1. Unlock MimiKey with your master password.
  2. Press ⌘, to open Preferences (偏好设置).
  3. Under Unlock (解锁), select Unlock with Touch ID (用 Touch ID 解锁) and verify your fingerprint when asked.

From then on, the lock screen prompts for Touch ID automatically; if you cancel or it fails, enter your master password instead. The unlock material is protected by your Mac's Secure Enclave, and deselecting the option deletes it from this Mac. Your Mac needs at least one fingerprint enrolled in System Settings.

Sync and conflicts

Items sync whenever you save. Click the sync button in the toolbar to sync right away; MimiKey reports how many changes it pushed, pulled and found in conflict.

A conflict happens when the same item was changed on two devices at once. A banner appears above the list (有同步冲突待裁决). Click Review (查看并裁决) and, for each conflict, choose Keep this Mac's version (保留本机) or Keep the server's version (保留服务器); the other version is discarded. You can't edit an item until its conflict is resolved.

Browser fill settings

In Preferences > Browser fill (浏览器填充):

  • Fill confirmation (填充确认): Strict, Balanced (default) or Convenient. This controls how often MimiKey asks you to confirm before the browser extension or system AutoFill gets an item. See AutoFill.
  • Start queries manually (手动开启查询): when selected, MimiKey stops listening for browser requests while unlocked, and you start each query yourself.

Press ⌘. to cancel a browser query in progress.

Account security and devices

  • Account security (账号安全): change your master password, manage devices, or empty your vault.
  • Devices (设备): see the devices registered to your account and revoke them.

See Devices and account recovery.

Sign out

Click Sign out (退出账号) in the sidebar. This removes the Secret Key and the local sync log from this Mac; the data on the server and your other devices isn't affected. You'll need your Secret Key the next time you sign in here.

Known limitations

  • The beta isn't notarized by Apple; open it the first time with right-click > Open.
  • During the beta, the macOS system AutoFill extension only runs on registered development Macs. If you installed MimiKey from the download page, use the browser extension.
  • Unlocking needs a network connection; offline use isn't supported yet.
  • Legacy mode (旧模式(本机文件)), collapsed in the sidebar, is an older single-device vault format kept for compatibility. New users don't need it.
